Dr. Zafar Z. is a board-certified psychiatrist with a strong clinical foundation in both in-person and tele-mental health care, bringing years of experience serving diverse and underserved populations. After completing his residency at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio, Dr. Zafar Z. began his career within the Veterans Affairs (VA) healthcare system in Houston, Texas, where he provided comprehensive psychiatric care in a collaborative clinical environment alongside nurse practitioners, physician assistants, medical students, and residents. His early career emphasized interdisciplinary teamwork, patient-centered care, and the management of a wide range of psychiatric conditions. As his career progressed, Dr. Zafar Z. transitioned into tele-mental health within the VA’s VISN 15 network, delivering psychiatric services across multiple states including Kansas, Illinois, and Missouri. During this time, he developed deep expertise in virtual care delivery, improving access to mental health services for veterans and underserved communities. Recognizing the importance of collaboration, he took initiative within the VA’s Education Department to establish and support a program for supervising nurse practitioner students—reaffirming his commitment to mentorship and team-based care.
