Board-Certified Psychiatrist (1997-2007) | Associate Clinical Professor, UCLA (retired) Dr. Andrew H has over three decades of teaching, clinical, and research experience, specializing in challenging patients. He earned his medical degree from the University of California, San Diego School of Medicine and completed his residency training at UC Irvine and UC San Diego. He had fellowship training in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at UCSD and Schizophrenia Rehabilitation at UCLA. Dr. H joined UCLA after residency and rose to Associate Clinical Professor of Psychiatry at the UCLA David Geffen School of Medicine, based at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center. He supervised psychiatry trainees, contributing to the development of future mental health professionals. Areas of Expertise • Management of challenging cases (especially comorbid personality disorders, addictions) - Diagnosis and step-wise engagement of patients who failed multiple treatment attempts • Case-based learning - Illustration of techniques that are helpful for common clinical challenges • Child & Adolescent Psychiatry – Assessment of children and adolescents in the context of their family and school setting. Engagement of patients and their families with mood disorder and ADHD/other disruptive behavior through step-wise protocol. • Mood & Anxiety Disorders – Rapid resolution of mood and anxiety symptoms by combining psychotherapeutic interventions and evidence-based pharmacotherapy • Psychotic Disorders – Comprehensive symptom management combined with rehabilitation to improve daily function and quality of life • Substance Use & Dual Diagnosis – Early diagnosis and aggressive treatment with psychotherapy and pharmacotherapy Collaborative Approach Dr. H wants to bring what he has been teaching psychiatry residents to other providers. The aim is to share his experience so that there will be more and more excellent mental health providers to meet the very large unmet need. Academic & Research Contributions Dr. H has published peer-reviewed research on sleep, schizophrenia, depression, migraine, dual diagnosis, treatment adherence, and new drug development. His academic work also includes digital health and platforms to improve psychiatric care delivery.
