Dr. Herman S Family Medicine & Hospice/Palliative Care Physician | 30+ Years Working with NPs | Federal Healthcare Leader & Advocate Dr. Herman S is a seasoned physician with over three decades of experience working alongside nurse practitioners, including more than 10 years in formal NP collaboration. As Chief of Extended Care at the VA Medical Center in Biloxi, MS, he leads the largest concentrations of NPs on campus, having successfully converted physician positions to NP roles to expand access to care. His clinical background spans family medicine, hospice and palliative care, mental health care, critical care, and home-based primary care, with a distinguished career in the U.S. Navy as a Commander and Regimental Surgeon. He has significant experience managing mental health conditions in veteran and primary care populations, including depression, anxiety, PTSD, and adjustment disorders, ensuring they are addressed alongside physical health needs. Known for his cooperative and supportive leadership style, Dr. S is deeply committed to empowering NPs to practice at the top of their scope in both inpatient and outpatient settings.
